02:46 pm: 3 weeks to go!
Hi everyone!
It is the end of the weekend and in a few hours a new week begins! Yesterday we had to move our clocks an hour forward so today started off a little weird. I wasn't sure what time it was! This week has been extremely hectic- I wrote a really important research paper! But, hopefully it will be ok. I have just under three weeks left of my junior year of college and then there is only one more year to go. Wow. Yesterday I talked to one of my friends for the first time in a few weeks and that was really fun. I can't wait to go home for the summer- I will work at my video store and hopefully I will get to volunteer and babysit and such. That would be a lot of fun. Last night I went to Pizza House and had pizza and a milk shake. It was yummy. Wedding Crashers is on tv right now. I am not going to lie- the first time I saw the movie I thought it was really funny and then every time since it has gotten less and less funny. Maybe I was just in the right frame of mind when I saw it the first time. I am about to go babysit for a few hours today- and it should be a lot of fun. On Friday night I went to my friend's art show in Detroit. It was a lot of fun and I was really impressed. There were paintings, portraits, poetry, hip hop, and lots of different forms of art. A lot of the pieces were socially aware and really moving. Do any of you like art? It was the first time I had been to a gallery. Ok, I have to go babysit now. I hope everyone is doing well!

Peace,
Heather
P.S. Just to clarify, my older sister works at a publishing company where she edits self help legal books!

What's up?!
So, I just watched the movie Chicken Run in one of my classes. It is always cool when you get to watch a movie for class, isn't it? I had never seen it before and I thought it was really funny! Have you seen it? I loved Bunty and Ginger. It was a lot of fun, and at the same time, it was relevant to what we are talking about in class. So, it was a fun hour and a half. In other news, I got an exam well and did ok. I know a lot of people were upset with how they did and I wasn't too pleased, but it was all right. I know I can do well on the final exam as well. I know this is not a really interesting post, and I am sorry! Tonight I have lots of homework, but hopefully I will be able to squeeze in a little fun or something. Ok, so I should go do more homework so I can relax later! I hope all of you are having a good day.
Take Care
Peace
Heather

06:00 pm: Hi All!
It's me again. I just thought I would pop in and say hello again. I have had a very busy day today. I worked this morning for two hours, then I had to go to lab for an hour and a half, then I had to go to my other job for three hours and then I had class for another 2.5 hours. So, basically I was busy for 9 hours straight! Crazy. But, I bet all of you have had a very busy day as well. Actually, I love being busy because if I am not busy, I tend to get bored easily. And today, Gilmore Girls is on! Bonus. I love that show. But I still think Veronica Mars is my favorite because it is so funny. Last night I went over to my sister's house and hung out with one of her roommates who is one of my good friends. We watched the end of the Michigan State Spartans women's basketball game where they beat Kentucky. It sure was fun, and a nail biter. Then we just chatted for a while, ate some PB and J and hung out before I went to bed because I had such a long day today.
Oh, so I am sure some of you are curious about my family and stuff. My mom is a professor of English, Psychology and Education and Alma College, which is a small liberal arts college an hour north of Lansing, Michigan. That means she has to drive two hours a day to go to work! Crazy, but she loves it so that's good. My dad sells technology to companies around the state. He works for a company GEE communications and he really likes his job, as well. My older sister is an assistant editor at Sourcebooks, Inc., a publishing company and she specializes in self help books. She is really good at her job too! My twin sister goes to school, here at th University of Michigan, just like I do. She is majoring in history and loves learning about the Vietnam War? Do any of you actually like learning about history? I think it is a ton of fun and really important to keep going with the future? My whole family is really interested in social justice, and we all do our share to make the world a better place. I know that sounds a little corny, but it's true! Ok, I have to run off and do some homework now. I look forward to hearing from you!
Peace!

04:57 pm: A bunch of stuff!
Hi all!
What's up? Well, I just finished a long day of classes and work. I had 3 hours of work, and another 5 of class. Busy, busy. This weekend I went to visit my older sister, in Illinois. I went with my twin sister. Does anyone else have a twin? It's pretty fun. We went and played card games, ate lots of food, and went shopping. It was a lot of fun. Is anyone keeping up with the NCAA basketball tournaments? Both the men's and the women's is going on right now so there are a lot of games to watch. Unfortunately, on the men's side my two favorite teams, the Michigan State Spartans and the Illinois Fighting Illini both lost. So now, for me, the tournament is not as fun. But there have been some surprises recently that have been keeping it interesting- especially Bradley, a really small school, which beat two top 25 in the nation teams. That's pretty rare, and sweet. On the women's side, though, my favorite team, the Michigan State Spartans, are still in it. One of the players, Liz Shimek, is up for the best player in the nation award (the Wooden award). Very cool. Oh, has anyone seen She's the Man with Amanda Bynes? I think it looks really silly and would love to know what you think of it. I have seen her on TV quite a bit and she seems really goofy and fun. Are there any other movies you have seen recently that you suggest? I love movies and love recommendations! Ok, I must go start a lot of homework right now. I just wanted to check in. Feel free to leave a comment!
Peace,
Heather

06:23 pm: It's been a long time!
Hey there all! I am so sorry it has taken me so long to write again. I have been really busy and time has slipped away from me! Let's see...what has been happening. Well, we recently had our spring break! That was a lot of fun. I went home and hung out with all my friends who weren't on Spring Break yet. I worked at our local video store and it was a lot of fun and relaxing. I get to watch movies for free when I am there, so that is an added bonus, too. I didn't go to the movies, unfortunately but I was able to buy RENT. It is one of my all time favorite movies. And now I think I have seen it 16 times. Does anyone else like it? I also saw Mean Girls recently which is hilarious! I love the part where Damien goes to a short girl "Danny Devito...I love your work!" What is your favorite part of the movie? I am really excited because this weekend I get to visit my older sister in Illinois to hang out and celebrate St. Patrick's Day. It is going to be a ton on fun. This past weekend I got to go home again and that was a lot of fun. And, now, with the advent of spring, the weather here in Michigan is looking better and warmer. I hope that doesn't jinx it! I am really looking forward to playing a ton of football and basketball as soon as winter is totally gone. I can't wait. Ok, I have to get going, but I just wanted to check in. I hope to hear from some of you!

06:30 pm: So, it is now the end of the week! Sorry it has taken so long for me to update! School has been really busy recently. I thought I would tell you all a little about me. I love movies! I work at a video store at home and I know tons about them! I have seen a lot and my favorite movie list is really long. Some of them include The Notebook, the Sound of Music, Mean Girls, Terminator 2 and more. Do any of you like those? Feel free to tell me what you like too, and maybe we like a lot of the same movies! Have any of you seen High School Musical on the Disney channel? I saw it and thought it was really cute. I thought they were all really good singers and the scene where the guy was playing basketball was my favorite! I also love sports! Some of my favorite sports are football and basketball! I know a lot about both, and I used to want to be a broadcaster for sports. I love Michigan State Spartans sports. I follow their football and basketball all season long. I also really like to read. Unfortunately with college being so busy, my reading for fun has decreased, but I still enjoy it! Some of my favorites are Bridget Jones' Diary, The River, Absolutely Normal Chaos, and the Notebook. When I was younger, I read all the Babysitter's Club books too! More recently I read the DaVinci Code. That was really cool and I am looking forward to the movie!
So, now you know I like sports, movies, books and more! I look forward to hearing from you!
I'll write later!

09:52 am: A couple thoughts...
Hi y'all! So, last night I went to a performance in my dorm. It was cool, and someone from my high school was in it! She did a very good job. But the pretty amazing part of the whole thing is that I went by myself! I have never been to a movie or anything by myself. I mean, I eat alone all the time because all my friends live elsewhere and have conflicting schedules. So, that kind of thing I am really used to. But I have never gone somewhere to be entertained by myself. And it was a lot better than expected. I thought that I was going to feel weird or something, but it was really ok. I got wrapped up in the performances, laughed a lot and just let the feeling weird about it go. And I will probably do it again! Maybe I will see a movie by myself or something sometime.
So, how many people are watching the Superbowl??!! In my house my dad and I always watched it and my sisters and mom would hang around to watch all the cool commercials. This year, I am going to be at school, so it's going to be a bit different. The Superbowl is always a good excuse for a lot of food! Every year, we used to load up on pop, doritos, and sub sandwiches. yum. But I love the Superbowl for all the football! I think I am the only person in the state of Michigan who actually wants Seattle to win. I mean, I know Pittsburgh is a lot closer than Seattle, but I don't really like the Pittsburgh Steelers. Well, I am probably boring you know, so I will go get my dad started.
Have a good one, everybody!

02:10 pm: Hi all!
How is everyone? I am doing pretty well. I just finished a long week of work and school and looking forward to the weekend! It's the Superbowl which is always a good time!
One of my favorite things to do on the weekend is to go home. I know that sounds kind of silly, but all my friends from high school still live in my hometown, and I love to see everyone. We are silly. Sometimes we will go bowling (I used to have a 112 average!) or we'll walk downtown. My hometown is East Lansing, so it is another campus town. I love the Spartans and am really comfortable at home. Sometimes we will just go out to eat. There are a lot of really good restaurants in town. There's this great sub place, called Jersey Giant. They have the most incredible ingredients, and the subs are 15 inches long! It is quite a feat to eat it all in one sitting. There's a few Mexican restaurants that are to die for- Flat's and El AzTeco. If you are ever in East Lansing, you should check them out.
My friends and I also really like to watch movies or go to them. Sometimes we will go watch silly movies, like a romantic comedy or something. Other times, we'll go see a drama or something. Actually, a friend and I just went and watched Glory Road, the basketball movie. It was a lot of fun, and if you like basketball movies, or rooting for the underdog, you should check it out! It was sweet, and really uplifting. And, if you have ever seen the TV show Fresh Prince of Bel Air, then you get to see Ashley, in the movie! So, basically, when I go home, a lot of times I watch movies, go bowling, go out to eat, and just hang out. After a really stressful week at school, that's the best thing, really!

If you want to know cool things to do in East Lansing, let me know and I will try to give you some ideas!

Peace,
Heather

08:07 pm: MLK Day
Hey there, again! How was the weekend for everyone? Mine was a lot of fun. So, I got to see the stage show of the Lion King. It was awesome. Words cannot describe how cool it was. The music was amazing.
So, February is Black History Month. Most schools have events to commemorate it, and leaders who have had a tremendous impact on Civil rights and the advancement of equality for all people, including Harriet Tubman, Sojourner Truth, and Martin Luther King, Jr. Speaking of which, Martin Luther King Jr. Day was a couple weeks ago. The University of Michigan does not have classes on that day, as a way to pay tribute to him and to raise awareness about certain issues. The week of MLK Day is filled with events and speakers who highlight the injustices and equality people face. It focuses particularly on those who face them on a daily basis for not being part of the majority.
On MLK Day I went to an event where there speakers discussed how lots of people were put in prison without having done anything wrong after Hurricane Katrina. The hurricane happened August 29, 2005 in New Orleans. One of the women could not be there to speak because the Hurricane left her without any money or way to get here. So, she sent a letter on her behalf, which was read to us. The letter detailed what she went through, and how she was separated from her family, and later, how she was treated badly by some of the police officers. She spoke of how she and her three children were held in a prison for 60 days without being charged with a crime. Her story was so sad and so moving. It was amazing that she had the strength to share her story. She said that a lot of the law enforcement officers abused their power because they could. She said that there was very little food and water. She is Black, and said that many of the injustices that happened were based on the skin color of people. Another woman who spoke is a lawyer working on fighting for the rights of people falsely imprisoned during the hurricane and its aftermath. She said that a lot of people in the country act like Hurricane Katrina never really happened and that makes it very difficult to go on, day to day. I was very moved by both speakers.
So, that was one thing I did for Martin Luther King Day. It was really interesting, moving, sad, and humbling. It really made me see how lucky I am to have my family, friends, and possessions near me. Ok, I have to go do a lot of homework right now.

08:08 pm: Winter Break!
Ok, so as you know, the school year just started again after Winter Break. I had a really nice break! I got to go home, which is East Lansing, MI. Yes, home of the Michigan State Spartans, whom I adore! It was really relaxing to be back home. My semester was a little stressful, so it was nice to have two weeks where I did not have to think about classes, or exams, or how many papers I had to write. Basically, Winter Break is just a time to recuperate from the stress of school! While I was home, I got to do a bunch of cool things. I got to see all my friends, which was really nice. Most of my friends from high school still live in the East Lansing area, so we got together. We went to movies, and hung out at their houses to catch up. I got to see these amazing kids I babysit. They are the coolest kids. The girl sings and dances all the time, and the boy knows so much about anything and is a great soccer player. That was so much fun. They are in elementary school, so I got to find out what they were all up to. I went out to eat a few times which is always fun! I even got to see my sister record a song that she had written on the guitar! That was neat! Also, because I needed some money, I got to work at Video To Go, this independent movie store at home where I have worked off and on for three years now. That was fun because I had not seen my coworkers in a long time! I love movies and it is always fun to recommend them to people. Also, because it is such a popular place, I see a lot of people from school, and church, and neighbors, so I also got to chat quite a bit there! My family celebrates Christmas, so we opened presents which is always fun. I got some really nice presents from my friends. Overall, the weather was really nice to us at home. It was snowy of course, and cold, but not rainy or anything, which I think is yucky. A couple days were kind of slippery, but I just made sure I was really careful on the roads! I got along really well with my family, which was really nice. We drank egg nog, yum, played card games, and chatted a lot. I had not seen my sister or my parents in a while so we got to hang out too. I saw the Chronicles of Narnia with my friends- it was really cool! Aslan was awesome! And Mr. Tumnus was really funny. And he was so kind to all of them. I also saw Rumor Has it, with Jennifer Aniston. It was a pretty cute movie. I can not remember any other movies I watched then, but I am sure I watched a bunch more. If I remember, I will let you know. One of my friends came home from school in New York so it was fun to see her. I only see her every few months, so it is always a treat when she comes home. It is really hard to be back at school. I miss all my friends from home, and I know have to focus on school right now. Overall, my winter break was really relaxing, fun, and awesome.
